Smoke Busters

The North Platte Volunteer Fire Department offers special fire safety and educational programs to the public. Known as “The Smoke Busters”, a group of members will tailor programs to fit the age groups requesting them. These programs range from puppet shows for the young, to providing programs such as operations of smoke detectors, escape routes, and what to do in case of kitchen fires for those young at heart.

For more information, call (308) 535-6762.

Smoke Detectives

This is a very popular fire safety program designed for kids. It is endorsed by the International Association of Fire Fighters and the National Association of Elementary School Principals.

North Platte Firefighters teach area school third graders the basics of fire safety and inspire them to become smoke detectives too.

Station Tours

(Target Audience: Age 5-12 years) Tours of fire stations are available to school and citizen groups on a limited basis and will be scheduled at a convenient time for both NPFD personnel and citizens. These tours are conducted by on-duty firefighters in service (available for calls) who work at the specified fire station requested. The tour includes what comprises a “typical” day at the fire station, along with a description of the fire equipment used during various types of emergency incidents.

Rig Demo/Hat, Coat, and Boot

(Target Audience: Ages 3 & Up) While in service (available for calls) a fire engine or ladder truck, from your primary response district, will visit your school or citizen group and introduce young students to age appropriate fire safety skills. They will demonstrate how a firefighter looks dressed in full firefighting gear and provide a tour of the fire apparatus.

***If interested in a Station Tour or Rig/Equipment Demo please contact City Fire Marshal George Lewis or Deputy Fire Marshal Mike McConnell @ (308) 535-6768***
