Cody Park on North Highway 83 is home to a collection of animals, picnic
areas and a fine collection of children's rides, including a restored antique
carousel with hand carved horses. In addition, this public facility houses the
beautiful life-size statue of William F. "Buffalo Bill" Cody, the display of
flags from the tours of the Wild West Show and a collection of railroad
locomotives and cars donated by Union Pacific.
In September, Cody Park is the site of our annual "Arts In The Park" event,
notable for its fine booths featuring handcrafted items by local artists and
craftsmen.
Cody Park is located just south of the North Platte river on Highway 83
and is comprised of 100 acres. The park has many outstanding features,
including:

Kiddie rides/Concession stand
opens on Saturdays & Sundays in April and rides open Memorial Day weekend.
Both close after the second weekend in September. Ride tickets can be
purchased
individually or in a multi-ticket discount quantity.
Group ticket purchase is available to non-profit groups. The group must request the tickets in writing at least five
days in advance, must use the tickets within seven days and can only use the
tickets on non-holiday weekdays.

Cody Park Campsite has 40 hard-surfaced camping pads. No sewer,
water or electrical hook-ups available. There are restroom facilities and
potable water available. Campsite is open May 1st through October 15th. Camping
costs apply.
Stays are limited to seven consecutive days.

Cody Park Shelter is approximately 4,000 square feet under roof;
seats approximately 200. Shelter has concrete floor, electrical hookup,
water, stage and lighting. Shelter is available for
rental
May 1st through October 15th. Rental reservations are accepted in person only, Monday through
Friday (8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m.) Reservations can be made one (1) year in
advance, date to date. The first person to the door on that day gets the
reservation. (Only exception to this rule is by mayor and/or council). All
rental fees are required at the time the reservation is made. All
reservations must be made at the Public Service Department, Park - Cemetery
Division, 1402 N. Jeffers.

An animal enclosure with deer, elk, burros, sheep, peafowl, ducks and geese
is also part of the park. All animals are shown in a natural setting. No charge.

A horseshoe pitching facility is available with 30 lighted pits designed for
tournament and recreational play. No charge.

Carpenter Softball Complex has four lighted adult softball diamonds.
Diamonds are used throughout the year for league play through the North Platte Sports Association.

Eight hard-surfaced, lighted tennis courts are used throughout the year
for recreational and tournament play. No charge.

There are many acres for picnic and general recreational use available.

Four restroom facilities are located throughout the park,
they are open from April 15th through October 15th.

Cody Park has three large playground areas.

A Train Display is open from Memorial Day through the 4th weekend
in September from 10:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. The display consists of the
restored Hershey, Nebraska depot, a Union pacific challenger steam locomotive,
a 6900 series diesel locomotive, mail car, baggage car and caboose, along with
other railroad memorabilia. No charge.

Bill Wood Field is located two blocks west of Highway 83 on 18th
Street, and includes a lighted baseball diamond and dressing rooms. The field
is used for American Legion baseball play.

The Dowhower Softball Complex, located two blocks west of Highway
83 on 16th Street, includes seven lighted softball diamonds. Diamonds are
used throughout the year for league play through the Platte Valley Girls'
Softball Association.

A portable band shell is primarily located in Cody Park. The
portable bandshell is used during the summer months for concerts in the park.
In the winter months, it is used from the first Monday after Thanksgiving
through December 25th for a Santa's Workshop Display in Memorial Park. The
portable band shell, when not in use by the City is available for rental at
$150 per day plus a $150 deposit. (City crews move the band shell).
