Summer Reading Programs — Basic Information
Summer Reading is held eight Wednesdays in June and July at 1:30 p.m.
and 3:00 p.m. for students in the elementary grades.The theme for Summer
Reading is based on the State theme. There is a broad range in the variety
of programs from speakers within the community or brought in from across the
country to games, short skits, crafts, puppet shows, story telling, book
reading, songs, movies, book talks and a small snack. Children are encouraged
to reach a goal by keeping track of pages read or minutes read to earn an
incentive prize.
A separate Summer Reading program for Young Adults (Grades 6 through 12) is
held on Thursdays from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. during June and July. Participants
also are asked to attain a goal by logging time spent reading. Prizes are offered
to this age group for completing the program.
